‘White Lotus’ Alum Meghann Fahy Reveals It’s “A Lot More Challenging” Being the Murder Victim in ‘The Perfect Couple’

Netflix ‘s new hit mystery series The Perfect Couple makes a point to hide who the murder victim is until the very end of the first episode. When we finally learn which guest attending Benji Winbury ( Billy Howle ) and Amelia Sacks’s ( Eve Hewson ) wedding has died, it’s something of a fun meta surprise for fans of the glossy murder mystery television show…

‘The Perfect Couple’ Episode 4 Recap: “Someone Could Get Hurt”

At the end of The Perfect Couple Episode 1 “Happy Wedding Eve,” it is confirmed that Meghann Fahy ‘s glamorous influencer Merritt Monaco is the corpse best friend Amelia discovers in the water. Meghann Fahy recently earned her first Emmy nomination for playing Daphne Sullivan in another juicy murder mystery satire, The White Lotus . In that HBO series, Fahy got to be the one who discovered the murder victim in the water.

“It was hard. Like running through water is harder than I think it looks,” Fahy told Decider about her aquatic work in The White Lotus all the way back in 2022.

So naturally, we had to know what it was like for Fahy to swap roles, now playing the corpse found in the water in The Perfect Couple.

“I was really surprised by the process of the life cast,” Fahy said. “So I went into this studio for like six hours or something. They poured silicone and then plaster over every single inch of my body to basically make what was like a dummy, but with all of my actual dimensions. It was very strange to see that floating in the water, but it was kind of cool, too.”

Much as with The White Lotus , Fahy revealed that working in the water during the scene in which Dakota Fanning ‘s Abby Winbury drowns Merritt was “a lot more challenging” than she anticipated. For Fahy, the problem wasn’t just the effort it took to work in the water, but the issue of her character’s fabulous wardrobe.

Even though Fahy’s favorite outfit in the series was her main “incredible, colorful, flowy” rehearsal dinner dress, it didn’t keep her warm during the cold Cape Cod night shoots.

“I will say it was really cold at the beginning of filming,” Fahy said.”I mean, basically that dress is a bathing suit. That was a challenge, certain nights where we were shooting outside on the beach and it was freezing.”

Throughout The Perfect Couple , it becomes more and more clear that Merritt Monaco was not at all the vapid flirt she appeared to be at first glance. She yearned for connection and only found that in best friend Amelia.

“I guess to me, she just always seemed like somebody who really wanted to make a family of her own because she didn’t really have a great one,” Fahy said. “So I think her relationship with Amelia, to me, was like always the key to her. Because I think that Amelia really grounded her in the world and in her life.”

Well, as of The Perfect Couple , Meghann Fahy has now dazzled audiences as both a survivor and a victim of the murder mystery genre. What will she do next? Be the detective who solves one?
