Cowboys rookie shoots down praise with honest admission after beating the Browns

One of the most impressive aspects of the Dallas Cowboys' win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday was the fact that they started fifth-round rookie Caelen Carson at cornerback and got away with it.

Not only that but Carson played a great game against a good Browns WR room

"I think I never looked at it like that, for me to come in and play like a rookie but honestly, I didn't know how the first game was going to go but I knew one thing: I wasn't going to come in scared," Carson told reporters postgame.

You've got to love the confidence emanating from Carson, who had to sit around the NFL Draft for 173 picks before hearing his name be called by the Cowboys. But Carson didn't get to where he is by patting himself in the back after a good game. So naturally, when he talked to reporters, he downplayed the evident praise headed his way with an honest admission: He should've had at least one interception.

"Yeah, listen, I didn't capitalize on my opportunities today, I think I played okay but I got to capitalize on my opportunities," Carson said. "That's the biggest thing with the Cowboys defense, turnovers."

Right before he answered the question, fellow cornerback Trevon Diggs yelled in the background that he owed the team 70 pushups.

Carson was tied with Diggs with two pass deflections on Sunday and although he had near picks more than once, including what could've been an early Pick-6, he played a great game in coverage and even flashed as a big-time, physical tackler.

This is just the start for Carson, who is essentially guaranteed to start three more games before DaRon Bland is even eligible to come off of Injured Reserve. But it seems like the Cowboys have done it once again: They landed a late-round steal at cornerback, one of the toughest positions in the game.

"There's more to come," promised Carson when asked if he had shown fans why he's nicknamed Seatbelt . "I left a lot of plays out there, there's a lot more plays to come."
