Cleveland Browns appear to have suffered more than just a loss to the Cowboys in Week 1

Week 1 is going to be one that the Cleveland Browns will want to wipe off and forget about. The 33-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys was not how the Browns wanted to start the season and it appears it is even worse after.

In the third quarter, tight end David Njoku took a pass 29 yards and suffered an ankle injury at the end of it. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the belief is that Njoku suffered a high-ankle sprain against the Cowboys.

Njoku is set to have tests today to confirm the injury. There is no other way to put it, this is a big loss for the Browns. If Njoku is to miss anywhere between 3-6 weeks with the injury, it will hurt the Browns immensely. Njoku is the team’s second-best receiving threat to Amari Cooper and is coming off of his best season yet in 2023.

The star tight end led the team with 44 receiving yards in what was an awful day for the Deshaun Watson offense.

Cleveland has just Jordan Akins behind Njoku on the active roster and would need to add a tight end if Njoku misses extended time. For any time that Njoku misses, the Browns would have to change a lot of what they do on offense. Another tight end is not walking through that door in the meantime which can replace what Njoku does.

A career-high 882 yards from Njoku last season looked like a number that he could surpass this season. Now with the possibility of missing extended time, it does not look like Njoku will have the kind of season that he very well could have.

An awful outcome to Week 1 for the Browns and there is no other way to put it. A to Z Sports will update this article when anything else becomes available with Njoku.

Update : Head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed that Njoku will be ‘week-to-week’ with his injury.
