Report: Texas A&M OL TJ Shanahan arrested for failing to identify, minor in possession of alcohol

Texas A&M offensive lineman TJ Shanahan was arrested for failing to identify and being a minor in possession of alcohol, according to Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle .

“Texas A&M backup OL TJ Shanahan arrested for failing to identify (gave false name and false date of birth according to police), minor in possession of alcohol,” Zwerneman wrote on Twitter.

Shanahan reportedly got out of a car in the Northgate bar district in College Station holding two Simply Spiked lemonade drinks and falsely identified himself to police on Saturday night.

Shanahan reportedly identified himself as “Michael Shanahan” with a birthdate of July 8, 1998, making him 26 years old. However, his actual name is Timothy (TJ) and he just turned 20 in March.

The backup offensive lineman kept insisting the false name was correct until he was presented with a Texas A&M roster. That’s when he admitted his real name and date of birth, per the report.

As a member of the Class of 2023, Shanahan was a four-star recruit out of Orlando (Fla.) and played at Westlake (Texas), according to the On3 Industry Ranking , a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 32 overall prospect in Texas, the No. 11 interior offensive lineman in the class and the No. 169 overall prospect in the class.

Texas A&M offensive lineman TJ Shanahan arrested

Shanahan obviously didn’t have a good night following Texas A&M’s first win of the season. Head coach Mike Elko has yet to address the arrest and potential consequences from the team.

But Elko’s team was sound in a 52-10 win over McNeese State. Last weekend’s loss against Notre Dame was a bitter pill to swallow for the Aggies.

Regarding what his personal goals were for Saturday, QB Conner Weigman kept it simple: “Just come out here and be a good teammate,” the quarterback stated. “Show what I can do. I know what I’m capable of, and to come out here and put it on display, I feel like we did that this week.”

Additionally, Weigman cited the offense’s efficiency and his connection with the team’s wide receiving corps as positives from Saturday’s game: “Just building that brotherhood,” the Aggies quarterback added.

Victorious in Week 2, Elko, Weigman and the Aggies will now turn their attention to the Florida Gators in Week 3, as Texas A&M tries to get over .500 and not look back over the rest of the season.
