It was an eventful Sunday for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Early in the morning, he signed a $240 million deal that made him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history. Later, his team got the first win of what will be a long journey in 2024.

Somewhere in between, Prescott and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones got on the phone with each other and shared a powerful moment after a long road of negotiating that saw both sides throw jabs (and sometimes, overhands) against each other.

"Yeah, I mean, he called me after, obviously congratulated me, thanked him, and he said 'I want you to be the quarterback here' and it's weird saying 'for his time,' he said for his time," Prescott shared with reporters before adding jokingly: "I'm giving the guy longer than four years obviously so I guess he's insinuating we're doing another contract."

All jokes aside, at 81 years old, that message to Dak carried a powerful meaning. He's the quarterback Jerry was always going to bet on to take the team back to its Super Bowl-winning days. The decision goes beyond who Dak Prescott is as a player, too.

"He said obviously the player but he also said the person," Prescott added. "And that meant a lot. So like I said, I just want to hold up my end of the deal and deliver for him."

Last week, Prescott told reporters that he wanted to win the Super Bowl for the Cowboys specifically, knowing how much it would mean to be the man to put an end to the team's ongoing streak without a Lombardi Trophy, which is quickly nearing 30 years.

"Let's get this thing behind us," was Jones' message to Prescott on Saturday's walkthrough.

The sides did exactly that. Now, Prescott gets $240 million and his wish on top: No more questions about negotiations or contract drama. He, the Cowboys, and us can move on to football and football only.
