Summer is unofficially over, and as leaves begin to change and temperatures start to fall, one thing is on all of our minds— ski season is just around the corner.

We'll need to wait at least another month for the first ski resorts in North America to open , but we're inching closer with each passing second. That's something worth celebrating, in our book. Without further delay, let's review the top ski stories from last week here on POWDER Magazine.

    5. Jamming and Skiing: Chris Benchetler Stars in New Music Video

Story: Jamming and Skiing: Chris Benchetler Stars in New Music Video

    Synopsis:
Everybody's favorite skier/artist Chris Benchetler is always pushing the limits of what's possible as a professional skier, and his recent collaboration with Yonder Mountain String Band is no exception. Watch as Benchetler slays powder to the catchy tune of the band's new track, Here I Go.

Editor's Thoughts : I'm not the biggest fan of Yonder Mountain String Band's eclectically unique genre of music, but they really roped me in by having Benchetler star in the music video. I just saved Here I Go to my Spotify playlist... Here I Go listening to it again!

    4. Why Did a Baseball Player Hit a Home Run in Ski Boots?

Reese Alexiades celebrates with the Savannah Bananas after his home run.

Story: Why Did a Baseball Player Hit a Home Run in Ski Boots?

Synopsis: What happens when the marketing folks for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team reach out to the Savannah Bananas for a collaboration? A player whacks a 400+ foot home run while wearing ski boots and a speed suit, that's what.

Editor's Thoughts: I love when stories like this come together or us here at POWDER. I saw the clip of Bananas' player Reese Alexiades slamming a home run in ski boots and knew there had to be a story behind it. One quick email later and POWDER writer Ella Boyd was on it!

    3. Noah Dines Grabs New Uphill World Record, but the Journey Continues

    Noah Dines.

Story: Noah Dines Grabs New Uphill World Record, but the Journey Continues

Synopsis: Noah Dines has skied more human-powered vertical feet in a calendar year than any skier known to man. That's impressive to read on paper, but POWDER writer Ian Greenwood wanted to know the answer to a simple question— Why?

Editor's Thoughts: I enjoy the cardiovascular workout of uphill skinning as much as the next backcountry skier, but logging more than 2 million vertical feet in less than nine months? No thank you. Thankfully I don't have to do it myself. I can just read Ian's interview with Noah. Isn't that nice?

    2. Jim Ryan Endures "Harsh" Summer Chamonix Mission for POWDER Magazine

Story: Jim Ryan Endures "Harsh" Summer Chamonix Mission for POWDER Magazine

    Synopsis:
Can an American skier survive the steep skiing mecca of the world? Jim Ryan travels to Chamonix, France to find out in this sponsored video presented by 5-hour Energy.

Editor's Thoughts: When 5-hour Energy asked me what kind of content I wanted to create as part of our continued partnership, I immediately pitched an idea about American professional skiers traveling abroad. It just so happened that Jim Ryan was stationed in Chamonix for an extended period of time and was game for filming a video. As Hannibal Smith from the A-Team used to say, "I love it when a plan comes together."

    1. Colorado Ski Resorts Blasted With First Snow of the Season

Skiable? Not quite, but snow in September is worth celebrating nonetheless.

Story: Colorado Ski Resorts Blasted With First Snow of the Season

Synopsis: A familiar chill returned to the high alpine peaks of Colorado last week, and the ski resorts weren't spared from the season's first snowfall. Check out the photos captured at Keystone and Breckenridge!

Editor's Thoughts: There's nothing quite like excitement of a first snowfall to get the winter gear churning, so to say. There's no doubt that the first snowfall sent skiers from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins into a frenzy. Winter is coming, are you ready?
