AEW Hurt Business Reunion Just Hit A Major Snag

It’s been whispered about, but any AEW Hurt Business reunion just hit a major snag, with one former member no longer free.

As WWE usage of Bobby Lashley and MVP waned, the whispers were heard. When WWE released Shelton Benjamin, same idea. Cedric Alexander faded into WWE obscurity, and well, you get the idea. In recent weeks, we know that both Lashley and MVP have seen their WWE contracts run out. That means they are free to sign wherever they’d like. Meaning, an AEW Hurt Business reunion is now possible, right ?

Wrong

While WWE did cut Shelton Benjamin loose (and he’s one I wish they kept), and let Lashley and MVP go too, Cedric Alexander is a different story all together. While some Superstars sign new deals to great fanfare, or a re-signing makes major news, that was not the case with Cedric. According to Fightful recently, Cedric Alexander actually quietly inked a new deal with WWE earlier in 2024. His signing was lost in the shuffle of much bigger names, but he has signed in any case. And with him re-signed, there can be no AEW Hurt Business reunion-at least not in it’s original form.

His recently free former mates suspected he had indeed re-signed, and now the deal is Fightful official. In terms of what he’s going to do with his WWE? That’s still up in the air. Earlier this year, we saw the company trying him out alongside Ashante Thee Adonis. Most recently, we’ve seen him show up in NXT . Being willing and able to go anywhere and do anything will surely help him, and there are loads of exciting Superstars (and opportunities) in NXT too. It may not be an AEW reunion of the Hurt Business, but it seems as though Alexander is happy. That’s what matters.

In any case, if you had high hopes for an AEW Hurt Business reunion, such a thing can’t fully happen for a while now. We could see a different iteration of the group, if AEW is even interested. But if most parts land in AEW, they will do so without Cedric Alexander.
