Jets All-Pro Facing Millions in Fines After Losing $800K in Week 1

New York Jets All-Pro pass rusher Haason Reddick is facing millions of dollars in fines due to ongoing contract negotiations with the team for an extension that would make him one of the highest-paid edge rushers in the NFL.

Reddick was traded to the Jets from the Philadelphia Eagles in March in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick, which could escalate to a second-round pick if Reddick plays at least 67.5% of snaps and tallies 10 sacks this season.

However, with Reddick not expected to play tonight in their Week 1 opener against the San Francisco 49ers, and having missed all of the Jets' offseason activities, it looks like Philadelphia will be receiving the third-rounder instead.

Reddick's absence from tonight’s game will result in a fine of nearly $800,000, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter , bringing his total fines this season to over $5 million.

"Jets hold-out edge rusher Haason Reddick will forfeit a game check of nearly $800,000 for missing tonight’s regular-season opener vs. the 49ers, and an additional nearly $800,000 for each game he subsequently misses," Schefter reported. "This is on top of more than $5 million in NFL-mandated fines that he already has accumulated."

Jets general manager Joe Douglas has remained optimistic throughout the offseason about Reddick—who has posted double-digit sacks in each of the last four seasons—eventually returning to practice, but it’s clear the decision lies in Reddick’s hands.

The loss of Reddick is particularly painful for the Jets, who lost edge rusher Bryce Huff to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency after he signed a three-year, $51.1 million deal in March.

Huff, 26, is coming off a career-best season in which he recorded 10 sacks.

With quarterback Aaron Rodgers turning 41 on December 2, the Jets know their championship window may be small. Maximizing their time with Rodgers means getting key players like Reddick back on the field as soon as possible.
