Damien Woody’s reaction to the Patriots win: As Patriots fans enjoy the Monday morning experience of an unexpected road win against the Bengals in Week 1 on Sunday, part of it has to be savoring the experts and pundits commenting on the result.

Former Patriots center Damien Woody was one of the more prominent examples, speaking during a “Get Up!” segment on ESPN.

Asked for his biggest surprise from Week 1, Woody pointed to his former team.

“The Patriots,” Woody offered, “going on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals.”

New England staged a 16-10 win through effective defense and running the football. It was a formula that impressed Woody.

“Listen, that Patriots defense is pretty damn good,” he said. “They’re going to cause a lot of teams a lot of problems.

On offense, Woody praised the Patriots running back and quarterback.

“They were efficient. They ran the ball with Rhamondre Stevenson, and Jacoby Brissett was just efficient. Didn’t have to do anything. Just don’t mess it up.”

    Scores and schedules:

The Patriots defeated the Bengals 16-10 on Sunday in Week 1 of the NFL season, notching a win in Jerod Mayo’s first game as head coach.

The Red Sox lost to the White Sox 7-2 on Sunday, as Chicago (despite being one of the worst teams in baseball history) managed to avoid being swept. Boston begins a new three-game series against the Orioles tonight at Fenway Park at 7:10 p.m.

Daily highlight: Two plays from the Patriots’ win deserve a mention. The first was Kyle Dugger’s incredible tackle to force a fumble near the goal-line, helping New England take points off the board from the Bengals.

In addition, here’s Jonathan Jones making a fourth down stop by figuring out what the Bengals were trying to do almost immediately and running full speed (while also making a great tackle at the end).
