'Henny God' Turns 39

Although the New York Knicks haven't accomplished anything of note in the 21st century, fun was had in the early 2010s. Carmelo Anthony landed in New York, creating a brand of legitimacy for the Madison Square Garden and Denver Nuggets. However, J.R. Smith provided Knicks fans with a distinct brand of entertainment. All Knicks celebrate a "fun" era of New York basketball on Smith's 39th birthday.

Smith played 213 games with the Knicks from 2011 to 2014. During his time in New York, the Knicks made the playoffs twice, winning one playoff series. In the most successful season of the 21st century regarding regular season wins, Smith played a significant role as the jetpack off the bench.

Voters deemed Smith worthy of the Sixth Man of the Year award for the 2012-13 season. In the same season, the Knicks won 54 games. Smith provided punch off the bench and classic moments in which fans gravitated.

Smith averaged 15.1 points per game on 36 percent shooting from behind the 3-point line.

Between his athletic prowess and on- and off-court antics, Smith brought a chaotic energy to the Knicks, which ignited them on runs and gave the fans more to like about the offensive boost off the bench.

One moment that comes to mind occurred in 2014. Dirk Nowitzki was at the free-throw line during a regular-season match against the Dallas Mavericks. During the sequence, Smith untied Shawn Marion's shoe while they waited for Nowtzki to shoot.
