A company have launched an unsettling robot designed to live in your home.

The NEO Beta is a bipedal humanoid with uncannily human-like movements.

Developers 1X, based in California and Norway, say they are releasing a number of their prototype bots into people’s homes this year.

The company believe the robot could help with household chores, as well as work in warehouses, manufacturing and the service industry.

Bernt Børnich, CEO at 1X said: “The future where you have humanoids at home folding your laundry is a lot closer than you think, and the price will be a lot lower than most people imagine. We can manufacture this at a cost of a relatively affordable car.”

1X said: “NEO Beta represents a significant advancement in robotics, moving beyond traditional, stiff robots to humanoids with bio-inspired designs that can safely work among people.”

NEO has been designed to be produced at scale in the company’s factory in Moss, Norway.

Bernt Børnich said: “Our priority is safety. Safety is the cornerstone that allows us to confidently introduce NEO Beta into homes, where it will gather essential feedback and demonstrate its capabilities in real-world settings.

“This year, we are deploying a limited number of NEO units in selected homes for research and development purposes. Doing so means we are taking another step toward achieving our mission.”

1X say their mission is to create an abundant supply of physical labour through safe, intelligent humanoids that work alongside people.

“To achieve this goal, 1X humanoids must be exposed to diverse environments to become fully capable of performing a wide range of tasks,” the company add.
