King and Queen Attend Memorial Service For Late Queen Elizabeth II At Balmoral

The current British monarch, King Charles III, and his wife, Queen Camilla, went to Crathie Kirk in Scotland, near Balmoral Castle, the summer residence of the royal family, to take part in the memorial service on the second anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. The service took place at the Church in Aberdeenshire, a favorite place of Queen Elizabeth II's every time she was in Scotland.

A Polite Welcome By The King

Following the royal couple's arrival, 75-year-old King Charles greeted and spoke to a few receptionists outside the church. Observers remarked that the King was "gracious," especially when he bowed his head while waving to the crowd. The service, led by guest preacher Rt. Rev. Dr. Shaw Paterson, was described as significant and deeply thought-provoking for the royal family.

Dr. Shaw Paterson, the Dalkeith and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, said his piece after a one-hour service, stating that it was an honor to interact with King Charles during the ceremony that also featured First Minister of Scotland John Swinney. Dr. Paterson particularly pointed out that King Charles is well-known and well-regarded in the Balmoral region, maintaining a successful link that Queen Elizabeth II enjoyed.

Tribute To The Late Queen Elizabeth II

Apart from the service, many have been paying their tributes to the late Queen Elizabeth II. The official Twitter account of the British monarch shared a photo of the late Queen from a 2019 summer garden party at Buckingham Palace. The incumbent Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also joined people in honoring the Queen, replying "70 incredible years." In a message shared on social media, Sir Keir noted that "the late Queen’s dedication to the UK and Commonwealth taught us that whatever challenges our country faces, the value of service always endures. She was at the heart of this nation’s life. Today, we honor her memory."

A Poignant Moment For The Royal Family

During his tribute at Crathie Kirk, Dr. Paterson reiterated the significance of the day for the royal family, Scotland, and the wider UK and Commonwealth. "The eighth of September marks the second anniversary of the death of Her Majesty the Queen and His Majesty’s accession to the throne," Dr. Paterson said.

He also said his prayers are with the royal family and all the persons associated with the royal family and the nation. The ceremony was led by Rev. MacKenzie, the minister of Braemar and Crathie Parish, who also serves as King Charles III’s domestic chaplain. It is certain that Rev. MacKenzie had supported Queen Elizabeth II during her terminal illness and had been loyal to the royal family after her demise.
