Broward County, FL - A 14-year-old South Florida high school student has been arrested for posting threatening messages on Instagram directed at multiple Broward County schools.

The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) received reports of the threats on Saturday afternoon and immediately launched an investigation in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies.

The Lauderdale Lakes student was apprehended and faces felony charges and expulsion from school.

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) issued a statement reminding students that posting threats of violence online is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated.

According to WPLG , a M-DCPS spokesperson wrote in a statement, "M-DCPS kindly asks parents to continue speaking to their children about the importance of using social media responsibly. Threats of any kind will be taken seriously, and those involved could face life-altering consequences."

Saturday’s incident follows a similar case in Miami-Dade County, where a student was arrested for threatening a local middle school.

The district urged parents to educate their children about the responsible use of social media and the potential consequences of making threats.
