Deshaun Watson Makes Embarrassing NFL History Against Dallas Cowboys

The Cleveland Browns fell short of expectations on Sunday evening, suffering a 33-17 home defeat to the Dallas Cowboys . Quarterback Deshaun Watson also made headlines, but not for the reasons he would have hoped.

At one point during the game, the Browns found themselves trailing 27-3. Despite playing without a fully healthy offensive line—missing both Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin —the team’s overall performance wasn't good, and there were numerous issues on display.

Deshaun Watson struggled throughout the game, completing only 24 of 45 passes for 169 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, resulting in a dismal 51.1 passer rating.

Watson struggled significantly with deep passes, going 0-for-10 on attempts that traveled 15 or more air yards. This marked the worst performance in NFL history for such throws since air yards have been tracked, which began in 2006.

Cleveland’s patience is wearing thin. In March 2022, the Browns traded for Deshaun Watson and handed him a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract.

However, in the 13 games Watson has started since joining the Browns, his performance has been underwhelming. He has completed just 228 of 386 passes, resulting in a 59.1% completion rate. He has accumulated 2,386 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, with a passer rating of 78.1.

This level of production falls short of the expectations set for one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in NFL history. Unless there is a significant improvement soon, speculation and rumors about his future, especially with backup Jameis Winston waiting in the wings, are likely to intensify.
