John Cena is currently filming Peacemaker season 2 , and according to the actor and WWE superstar, it’s shaping up to be something special.

Speaking exclusively to Men’s Journal, Cena said of the secretive script: “I'm trying to figure out what I can tell you and get away with. We are in the process of filming it. We're on time. [You] can expect to see some material soon, and I say soon because that all rests on the shoulders of James Gunn, so whenever he wants to put something out, you'll all see it.”

The actor, who first played Peacemaker in Gunn’s 2021 Suicide Squad film, couldn’t hide his buzz for HBO’s spinoff superhero series, in which he plays the starring role. “From my perspective, I think we got something special. I can tell you that I'm really, really, really excited.”

The first season of Peacemaker premiered on HBO Max on January 13, 2022. Peacemaker season 2 is slated for release July 11, 2025. This marks a lengthy three-year wait between seasons.

It’s not the only project Cena has in the pipeline, however. The actor is currently promoting chart-topping mobile game, Brawl Stars , and its new Spongebob tie-in to mark 25 years of the beloved Nickelodeon show. His new Brawl Stars commercial (embedded below) has been viewed 11 million times. Could it one day become an animated movie like Minecraft, The Super Mario Bros. Movie , or Detective Pikachu ?

“I have adapted the WWE philosophy on all that is media,” said Cena. “Nowadays, that is never say never, my friend.” Speaking of crossovers, this WWE superstar almost starred in Black Panther 2 .

Before then, however, Cena has some WWE business to attend to. “I'm going to retire next year and hopefully on that schedule there's a London date there. So, man, maybe we can get together in an arena capacity one last time to make some noise.” The venue he has his eye on? The O2.

“Wembley's huge, but we've always rocked the hell out of the O2, and you can fit 18,000 folks in there and they're really, really rocking. So I'm not sure, that's a little beyond me. Of course, I'd like to get as many folks in there as possible, but as long as London's on the calendar, I think I'll be happy.”
