Why did Lindsey Morgan walk away from Walker ?

The actress cited “a spinal injury” as the cause of her departure from The CW crime drama on the latest installment of Tommy Didario’s I’ve Never Said This Before podcast, per The Hollywood Reporter . She explained that the injury was “affecting [her] nervous system and [her] brainstem.”

Although the injury led to tremendous amounts of stress and anxiety, which prevented her from doing her job, Morgan deemed her exit the toughest decision she’s made after her dream of leading a TV show. She noted that she “had been manifesting” an opportunity like playing Micki Ramirez until she had to step away.

“I really wanted to be a lead,” she shared, per THR . “I wanted to get a promotion in my career journey. When Walker came, I was the lead female. That was my dream come true.”

While Morgan acknowledged that she “was really blessed and lucky that [she] started working and didn’t stop,” she reflected on the mental and physical toll of her busy schedule.

“But, looking back, I realized my mistake in the sense of, like an athlete, I was working, working, working out putting, outputting, outputting, outputting, but I wasn’t recovering,” she continued. “All my dreams were coming true, and I was a mess. Me, personally, was not in a good place. My anxiety was through the roof.”

She added, “I feel like I did not do good work. And looking back on it now, it was because I was so stressed out in my body — mentally and physically. I was a mess. I couldn’t figure out why. I have all of this responsibility on my shoulders, and I felt like I was failing everyone — and myself.”

Morgan said that doctors issued her two options — either proceed with 16-hour-long work days for nine months at a time, which would involve taking medication that she could potentially need for the remainder of her life, or alter her lifestyle to reduce stress. While she seemingly chose the latter option, Morgan highlighted that she is “somebody that really pushes themselves and has really high standards, and [she] never want[s] to let anyone around [her] down.”

“I felt a little bit like I let Jared [Padalecki] down, or let the show down, and that was the hardest part for me, because it still makes me emotional, which I know is silly, because I was doing what I needed to do to take care of myself, and that’s more important,” she said.

Morgan departed the series midway through its sophomore season, explaining in a statement at the time that she had “made the incredibly difficult decision to step away from my role as Micki Ramirez on Walker for personal reasons.” Per IMDb , Morgan most recently appeared in Scrambled .

The CW canceled Walker in May. Series star Padalecki later slammed the network’s content strategy, telling Variety , “I think it felt to me like they were looking for really easy, cheap content that they could fill up time with.”
