Giants QB Daniel Jones Has Thrown More Pick-Sixes Than Touchdown Passes Since Signing 4-Year, $160 Million Contract

Here's a WILD stat of the day for you. New York Giants fans might want to look away, because this is a story that's directly pointing out how big of a mistake locking down Daniel Jones at quarterback might have been. In March of 2023, the Giants felt like they had seen enough to make their former first round pick their official quarterback of the future. Coming off a playoff victory against a depleted Minnesota Vikings team, New York signed Jones to a 4-year, $160 million contract. That's looked like a big mistake ever since, as the 27-year-old has either struggled or been injured ever since putting pen to paper on that deal. Last season, injuries plagued Jones, who only appeared in six games for the Giants. In the games he did play in, he had an abysmal passer rating of 70.5 and threw two touchdowns and six interceptions. Two of those interceptions were "taken back to the house" by the opposing defense for pick-six's. Which brings us to yesterday's game... Remember how one win against the Vikings in the postseason basically got Jones his big contract? Well yesterday's game against Minnesota might be the turning point in the Daniel Jones experience where fans - and even the organization that invested in him - jump ship. As Alanis Morissette famously said, "isn't it ironic?" Jones completed 52 percent of his passes for 186 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. One of those picks was taken back for a touchdown, which means that since the Giants quarterback signed his $160 million extension, he's thrown more touchdowns to opposing teams than he has his own team. It's a crazy stat: https://twitter.com/BleacherReport/status/1833135111677620597 Absolutely brutal. And the pick-six that he threw yesterday happened
fast . One of the new offseason acquisitions for the Minnesota Vikings, Andrew Van Ginkel, perfectly jumped on a screen pass and ran into the end zone for a touchdown to officially move Jones' into more pick-six's than touchdown passes since his contract extension. https://twitter.com/jasrifootball/status/1832858491368992848 And like I said, it was one of the fastest interceptions that's ever been recorded. Funny enough, the two quickest picks in the last two years belong to Van Ginkel: https://twitter.com/NextGenStats/status/1832861379029852394 The only thing quicker than Van Ginkel picking off an opposing quarterback is the amount of time it took New York Giants fans to go from hopeful to hopeless about the 2024-25 season. Fans even waited around after the embarrassing home loss yesterday to boo their franchise quarterback (and ask for millions of dollars): https://twitter.com/NewYorkRevival/status/1832952581686976659 It's bad in New York... https://twitter.com/sarahhmccrory/status/1832884942956577004
