I tried saving a few dollars at the gas pumps and started filling the tank in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with E85 gasoline, which is a 15% ethanol, 85% gasoline mix. My Jeep started running rough at idle. Fuel mileage dropped about 2 1/2 mpg under the same driving conditions. I switched back to a 10% ethanol mix, and the Jeep idles smooth again and back up to 19.5 mpg. It's not bad considering my Jeep has around 300,000 miles on it. I can't afford premium, no alcohol gas. It's $4.29 per gallon, and I use about 21 gallons per week driving to and from work.
