INDIANAPOLIS (WISH-TV ) –Indianapolis hospice patient Calvin Simmons, who is terminally ill, had one final wish: to attend a Colts game.

Simmons, a lifelong Colts fan and Marine veteran lives at the Abbie Hunt Bryce Home on the city’s northeast side, which provides free end-of-life care through Morning Light, Inc.

On game day, he started his day in a Colts-themed hospice room and then traveled to Lucas Oil Stadium to watch the Colts face the Texans, thanks to the nonprofit’s “Making Memories” campaign. This initiative brings final wishes to life for the terminally ill through donations.

“Then when I moved in, I was like, well, if it’s the last thing I do, I’m going to a game, one way or another,” Simmons said.

Simmons was deeply thankful to the campaign for making his wish come true. He thanked the donors who support the campaign and the Abbie Hunt Bryce Home for their care.

“Sometimes, when you are in your hour of need, someone there will be willing to stretch their hand out to help you,” Simmons said.

The campaign and nonprofit emphasize the importance of celebrating life’s moments.

“We all have wishes, we all have things that we want to do before we die, and it’s nice to have the opportunity to make that magic happen,” Zachary Alexander, a member of the nonprofit’s Board of Directors and a donating member, said. “Morning Light relies on the support of the community and its donors and orders to make those memories happen and grant a final wish for folks before they leave into the next life.”
