PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi said Monday he’s been in his office working on getting ready for the Backyard Brawl on Saturday and really had no idea about what was happening with his direct boss. Narduzzi did say about Pitt making a change of leadership and dismissing the athletic director.

“Grateful and appreciative of the last seven years working with Heather Lyke,” Narduzzi said. “She’s done a great job. She’s got a great energy. Appreciative of everything she’s done.”

Lyke did not hire Narduzzi, but did give him his most recent contract extension through the 2030 season which included a raise in salary to over $5 million a season. Lyke also approved several facility upgrades including new football locker rooms this year.

“She’s been outstanding and supportive,” Narduzzi said. “I can’t thank her enough and her family.”

He said she is a strong, strong person and said she will land on her feet. Narduzzi added about moving forward.

“I know Chancellor Gabel is committed to excellence in athletics, committed to excellence in championships in Pitt football,” Narduzzi said. “I got a ton of trust in her and what she is going to do in the future here at Pitt.”

Narduzzi said he has a great relationship with interim AD Jen Tuscano. He said he will be in contact with her and ‘trusts she will do an outstanding job’.
