Tiki: Daniel Jones has a quarter of the season to improve, or Giants must move on

Tiki Barber has maintained a sense of belief in Daniel Jones after his career year in 2022, but after Sunday’s disastrous performance against the Vikings, he says the clock is officially ticking on the struggling quarterback.

“Daniel Jones has to be better, otherwise he will not be the starting quarterback of the New York Giants,” Tiki said. “People want to put a timeline on this. I’m not saying to do it today or next week, but I’m giving him a quarter of the season. One quarter of the season, and you have to move on from Daniel Jones if he doesn’t get better.”

Jones posted a quarterback rating of 44.3 on Sunday, and threw two ugly interceptions, one on a screen pass that went for a touchdown, and one that went behind his receiver and into double coverage in the end zone. Tiki believes Jones will be better, but it has to happen soon, or else Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen’s jobs could be on the line next.

“There were mistakes that I saw made by Daniel Jones that I also saw from Caleb Williams, Bo Nix, and Jayden Daniels. The difference is, those guys are rookies, and Daniel Jones is in his sixth season in the NFL,” Tiki said. “There are things like not reading through progressions, not taking the easy throw, and looking flustered in the face of clean pockets., those are all things that Daniel Jones needs to, and has to, do better, or this Giants team is going absolutely nowhere.

“I am not ready to scream ‘bench him’...it’s only one game, and he hasn’t played since tearing his ACL a year ago...but right now, there is not a fan, a pundit, and there are probably not a lot of people in that locker room who feel like Daniel Jones is their answer at quarterback.”
