( NewsNation ) — Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will face off in their first presidential debate on ABC Tuesday night and are expected to spare over a variety of topics.

It will be the second debate against a Democratic nominee for Trump this election cycle. For Harris , it is her first since she ascended to the position following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal.

It’s an opportunity for both of them to expand on their policies — particularly Harris, given her lack of media interaction — and attack perceived weaknesses in their opponent’s views .

How to watch the Trump-Harris presidential debate

Trump is expected to critique the vice president on the Biden-Harris administration’s economic and border record.

He also has a chance to continue laying out his economic vision. In New York City he pledged to reduce the corporate tax rate from 21% to 15% for companies that make their products in the U.S. and tapped Elon Musk to root out federal government waste.

Trump also may discuss his proposed changes to the federal government, including plans to eliminate the Department of Education, and plans to make Robert F. Kennedy Jr. the Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary.

Harris will almost certainly hit back at Trump on abortion and democracy. The vice president hinted at her potential strategy with a new campaign ad that began airing in Philadelphia on Monday. It is also airing in Trump’s backyard: West Palm Beach, Florida.

The political ad features former Trump’s administration officials saying he isn’t fit to serve for another term.

What are the rules for the first Harris-Trump debate?

Harris has also tried to connect Trump to Project 2025 and suggested it would be a blueprint for his second term. However, the 45th President publicly distanced himself from it.

In July, Trump said he has “nothing to do” with those behind the plan and knows “nothing” about it. The Republican nominee will discuss much of what he does on the campaign trail; rebuilding the economy, ending inflation and securing the border.

As for Harris, she will also repeat talking points from her rallies and one television interview; pro-abortion, tax cuts for the middle class, making rent and homeownership more affordable, and growing small businesses.
