Although Washington's stint with the Dallas Mavericks has been brief, Washington appears to feel at ease in Dallas after a five-year tenure with the Charlotte Hornets in Charlotte from 2019 to 2024.

PJ Washington Hosts First-Ever Basketball Camp

On Saturday, PJ Washington finished hosting his first-ever boys and girls basketball at The Sportsplex in North Dallas. Washington discussed the Dallas Mavericks' upcoming season but reportedly had difficulty hiding his enthusiasm.

The Mavericks added Guards Klay Thompson, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Quentin Grimes to their roster this offseason, along with Forwards Naji Marshall, Emanuel Miller, and Melvin Ajinca. All of them were high-quality additions, which had Washington doing cartwheels while predicting what could happen this coming season.

According to the Mavericks' website, Washington told his basketball camp's attendees, "They're all going to be great (additions) ... I'm excited for y'all to see. They can pretty much do everything and they're going to help us in every single way. I'm glad those new guys are here with us and I'm glad we get a chance to play with them as well."

Washington's recent words to his camp's attendees were an arguable combination of being heartwarming while providing optimism.

Washington and Dallas Mavericks' Plan

PJ Washington and the Dallas Mavericks reportedly have a plan. Washington told his basketball camp's attendees that everyone on the Mavericks' roster is excited, as they've reloaded to be locked in and ready to go. He added that he was just excited to get to training camp and get things rolling.

The Mavericks went 50-32 and finished fifth in the Western Conference last season as the prohibitive underdogs in all four postseason series. The national media likely won't pick the Mavericks to win the West next season, but that didn't appear to bother Washington, who said that he didn't care what the media thinks, as he and his teammates just have to focus on what they know they can do by going out and playing the best they can. Washington added that as long he and his teammates stick together and play their game, they feel they could beat any of their upcoming opponents.

Washington Helps Dallas Mavericks

PJ Washington might not be a household name, but he was a solid acquisition by the Dallas Mavericks, who acquired him in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Forward Grant Williams, Guard Seth Curry, and the Mavericks' 2027 first-round draft pick, which included light protections, on February 8, 2024.

Despite playing just 29 regular season games for the Mavericks, Washington showed his new team that he was a crucial component to their postseason season. He lifted them to the fifth seed in the Western Conference and an NBA Finals appearance. His contributions to their defensive end were felt immediately.
