Aaron Rodgers was finally back on the field Monday, but his return wasn't all pretty.

The Jets fell to the 49ers, 32-19, on "Monday Night Football" to wrap up Week 1 action across the NFL. San Francisco, which was without dynamic RB Christian McCaffrey (calf, Achilles) , put together a dominant two-way effort that was led by 147 rushing yards from backup running back Jordan Mason .

Mason, who came in as nothing more than a spot starter, made a name for himself with his 28 carries, the most he's had in a game since he was in high school. Whether McCaffrey is back next week or not, Mason likely earned more playing time with his huge fill-in performance in Kyle Shanahan's offense.

    WEEK 2 FANTASY RANKINGS:
    QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers

Brock Purdy didn't have a touchdown pass in the matchup, but it didn't matter much. WR/RB hybrid Deebo Samuel rushed for a score in the second quarter, and the 49ers' kicker, Jake Moody, had a massive day with six field goals.

San Francisco ran away with the game in the middle quarters, but it wasn't all bad for New York. Having Rodgers on the field helped its offense run better than last year, and the Jets' best drive of the game came in the first quarter when Breece Hall eventually found the end zone.

Rodgers finished 13-of-21 with 167 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception in his return to play after a year away from the game of football. He turned back the clock a bit with a free-play chuck down the field to Allen Lazard for a score, a good sign moving forward for the Jets.

While the season-opening result wasn't what New York wanted, it did have some positive takeaways from this matchup. The 49ers were always going to be a tough Week 1 team to beat. A 40-year-old Rodgers looked solid, but the Jets will need better defensive production moving forward if they want to return to the playoffs.

The defending NFC champion 49ers remained dominant on Monday, displaying their depth and top-to-bottom talent while maintaining their argument as the NFC's team to beat.

Jets vs. 49ers results, highlights from 'Monday Night Football'

    (All times Eastern)

    Final: 49ers 32, Jets 19

11:08 — Purdy takes a knee, and San Francisco wins at home in Week 1. RB Jordan Mason and K Jake Moody have big games for the 49ers.

    49ers 32, Jets 19

11:05 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — With Tyrod Taylor in at QB, the Jets score a late touchdown. Allen Lazard pulls in his second of the game, but it's too little, too late to make a difference in the result for New York. The two-point try is no good.

    49ers 32, Jets 13

10:55 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Moody is 6/6 on field goals tonight, and he virtually locks in a 49ers win. The Jets are keeping Aaron Rodgers on the sidelines for their next drive.

10:52 p.m. — Mason improves his stat line to 147 rushing yards on 28 carries and a touchdown. A big day for San Francisco's RB2.

10:47 p.m. — The Jets, desperate to keep their offense on the field, go for it on 4th & 1. They're unsuccessful though, as Rodgers' pass to Wilson is broken up with just over seven minutes remaining.

    49ers 29, Jets 13

10:40 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Make it five field goals for Moody. San Francisco thought about going for it on 4th & 1, but took its offense off the field instead. It's now a 16-point 49ers' lead.

10:33 p.m. — Purdy is dealing on this drive so far. First, he completes a pass to Deebo Samuel for a 25-yard gain, then a few plays later, he finds Aiyuk for 14 yards. The 49ers are inside the Jets' 15-yard line, and Samuel is up to 78 total yards today.

End of third quarter: 49ers 26, Jets 13

10:28 p.m. — Purdy hits Jennings, his leading receiver today, for 15 yards. San Francisco is in its own territory entering the fourth quarter.

    49ers 26, Jets 13

10:22 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Aaron Rodgers, the GOAT of the free play. On 3rd & 8, the 49ers are offsides and Rodgers immediately takes a shot downfield to Lazard, who snags it and streaks into the end zone. The Jets are back on the board with Rodgers' first touchdown in his new uniform, but their two-point try is no good.

10:20 p.m. — Looking to find any type of offensive momentum, Rodgers finds Lazard for a nice 26-yard play.

    49ers 26, Jets 7

10:15 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Moody notches his fourth field goal of the day after San Francisco was stopped on 3rd & 2. It's now a 19-point lead for the 49ers.

10:14 p.m. — Jordan Mason's big day just keeps on going. He picks up a first down with a physical, up-the-middle run, and the 49ers continue to feed him on early downs. Mason is over 100 rushing yards in the game.

10:06 p.m. — On the third play of the Jets' possession, Rodgers' pass is tipped in the air, then intercepted by Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles. Any momentum New York found in it's early scoring drive seems to be gone.

    49ers 23, Jets 7

10:01 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Jordan Mason has really stepped up in Christian McCaffrey's absence. He scores from five yards out, putting the 49ers in firm control.

9:58 p.m. — The 49ers are eating away at New York's defense on this drive. Nine plays, 67 yards, with the most recent a 34-yard completion to Kyle Juszczyk for the biggest play of the game so far.

9:57 p.m. — San Francisco honored longtime running back Frank Gore at halftime of this game:

9:54 p.m. — The 49ers open the second half with the ball, and Samuel gets back to work with a 10-yard gain on a catch and run.

9:49 p.m. — Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson were the only players outside of Rodgers to see the ball for the Jets' offense in the first half. As for San Francisco, Jordan Mason is leading the way with his 74 rushing yards.

    Halftime: 49ers 16, Jets 7

9:39 p.m. — Rodgers takes a knee to send this game to halftime. So far, he's 7/11 with 64 yards, while Brock Purdy is 9/16 with 106 yards.

    49ers 16, Jets 7

9:36 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Purdy turns to Aiyuk twice trying to find paydirt, but both passes are incomplete. Instead, the 49ers settle for their third field goal thus far, making it a two-possession game approaching halftime. Peyton Manning wasn't happy about Aiyuk's drop in the end zone on ESPN2:

9:32 p.m . — Time is winding down in the second quarter. Purdy completes a 15-yard pass to Samuel then a 14-yard pass to Jauan Jennings, putting San Francisco in field-goal range. Also: Sauce Gardner is back in the game.

9:29 p.m. — Something to keep an eye on: Jets CB Sauce Gardner has been on the sideline for the last few plays. There's no indication yet as to why he isn't in the game.

9:24 p.m. — Purdy finds an open George Kittle for 24 yards to begin a new drive, then Mason picks up 13 yards between two plays. Mason is up to 74 rushing yards on 6.7 yards per carry as we hit the two-minute warning for the first half.

9:19 p.m. — New York goes three-and-out. Hall didn't find much room to run on the ground, and Rodgers' pass is incomplete on third down.

    49ers 13, Jets 7

9:12 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Deebo Samuel gets the handoff and runs it in from two yards out for the 49ers, their first touchdown of the season.

9:10 p.m. — A 17-yard run to the end zone for Mason is called back after Deebo Samuel is called for holding. The 49ers will try again.

9:04 p.m. — Mason is putting together some chunk runs for the 49ers, with 20 rushing yards on this drive. San Francisco is inside the Jets' 40-yard line.

8:58 p.m. — Leonard Floyd, who tackled Rodgers on the play where he sustained his season-ending injury last season, gets to him on third down. The Jets offense doesn't stay on the field very long this time around and will punt.

    Jets 7, 49ers 6

8:53 p.m . FIELD GOAL — The 49ers turn to Moody again after Deebo Samuel lost yards on third down. The 51-yarder is good, making it a one-point game early in quarter No. 2.

End of first quarter: Jets 7, 49ers 3

8:50 p.m. — The 49ers are on the move heading into the second quarter. Brandon Aiyuk, fresh off his new contraction extension, had a 14-yard completion from Purdy.

8:45 p.m. — The offense is picking up, as McCaffrey's replacement at RB tonight, Jordan Mason, picks up 13 yards to approach the 50-yard line.

    Jets 7, 49ers 3

8:40 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Breece Hall finds the end zone for the Jets. It was an impressive drive (12 plays, 70 yards) for New York against a strong defense, and it takes the lead.

8:38 p.m. — The Rodgers-Wilson connection looks strong already. On 3rd & 6, the quarterback hits Wilson for seven yards, then he does it again on the next play for eight yards. New York is driving deep into 49ers territory.

8:34 p.m. — Rodgers hits his top target, Garrett Wilson, for the biggest play of the game so far. It's a 16-yard gain on an impressive play for Wilson, but the 49ers are all over the Jets' run game early.

    49ers 3, Jets 0

8:29 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Jake Moody puts one through the uprights from 46 yards out, giving San Francisco the first lead of the contest.

8:26 p.m. — Fumble! Fred Warner punches the ball out of Breece Hall's arms on the first play of the Jets' drive. The 49ers recover it, and they take over at the Jets' 32-yard line.

8:22 p.m. — Both defenses do their job early. Brock Purdy picked up six yards on a throw to TE George Kittle, but his deep pass to Deebo Samuel hits the ground on third down. Just a few minutes in, and New York will get its second drive of the game.

8:19 p.m. — It's a three-and-out to start for the Jets. RB Breece Hall picked up seven yards, but Rodgers' pass to Allen Lazard is incomplete on third down. The defending NFC champs will get the ball.

8:12 p.m. — Approaching kickoff, San Francisco enters as the 3.5-point favorite at home.
