DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - After an offseason of anticipation and speculation, the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott finally came to an agreement on a long-term extension.

On Monday, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones joined K&C Masterpiece to discuss the deal, and made sure it was known that there were no hard feelings between the two parties, despite the long and drawn out negotiation process.

“Obviously we understand these things take time," Jones said. "I think our players understand, at the end of the day, this isn’t about costing us bottom line money on the business. This is us dividing up the salary cap. It’s not anything personal.”

The deal itself, which officially made Prescott the highest-paid player in NFL history, will give Prescott and average of $60 million per year, with $231 million guaranteed.

It also comes equipped with a no-trade clause and a no franchise-tag clause, that ostensibly guarantee Prescott will be in Dallas for a long time to come.

And according to Jones, that is a fairly standard arrangement between franchises and quarterbacks on big-money contracts in today's NFL.

"This day and time the dynamics of the franchise, if you're into a quarterback thats in a big, big deal, the fact is that to franchise somebody you have give them a quarter or more of their cap number, its unrealistic to even think that you can franchise somebody because of how big the cap number is," Jones said. "You'e got to carry to whole thing, you can't spread it out over the years. So its really a non issue. The trade deals, I think those things work themselves out. Whether its Matthew Stafford going to a different place of Aaron Rogers going to a different place, both sides understand when its time."

Now, with a massive contract to his name, the pressure has never been higher on Prescott to perform when it matters most.

And that pressure will come from Jones and the front office as well, who believe success is defined by Super Bowls.

"I know Jerry and I feel that way, I think Mike McCarthy and his staff feel that way, I think Will McClay and his staff feel that way," Jones said. "Everyone's No. 1 measurement around here is winning a championship. Thats what we're in the business for."

Prescott and the Cowboys look to move to 2-0 next Sunday when they face the New Orleans Saints in their home opener.
