Dune 3 Script Teased by Denis Villeneuve

Denis Villeneuve has shared an exciting update on Dune 3 .

Speaking on the red carpet at TIFF, the director told Variety in an interview embedded below, "It's in the works, that's why I'm not staying [at this event] for very long.”

It sounds like Villeneuve is working around the clock to make sure the third Dune film lives up the hype. He goes into it more aware of its cultural legacy than the last film.

"The thing is it was very moving because part one was released at the end of the pandemic, so I did not have a chance to be in contact with the audience," he continued. "It was more of, I was disconnected from the audience. So when we did the tour for part two, and then we felt the joy and the appetite for the second film, that really went straight to my heart to see how much people were waiting for the film and ready to love it."

Dune 3 was officially confirmed in April, but updates are few and far between. In fact, one of the few times Villeneuve mentioned the film was in that same month, when he teased the potential plot.

"That anger [felt by Zendaya's character at the end of Part Two] is tremendous," he said to The New York Times. "I don't want to reveal what I'm going to do with the third movie. I know exactly what to do. I'm writing it right now. But there's a lot of firepower there, and I'm very excited about that decision."

In Dune: Part Two , Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) declared his marriage to Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) in a shrewd political move, prompting Chani to flee into the desert. This suggests her story arc will diverge from Frank Herbert's novel, which instead sees Chani become Paul's concubine.

That said, the central premise of Dune 3 will likely continue Paul’s rise to power, eventual corruption, and his complicated relationship with sister Alia Atreides (Anya Taylor-Joy).
