Harvey Weinstein Reportedly Rushed to Hospital for Emergency Surgery

Harvey Weinstein —a former Hollywood producer who was convicted of sexual assault in 2022 in California and is expected in court this week regarding a possible new indictment—was reportedly transported to a hospital from Rikers Island on Sunday, Sept. 8, after experiencing pain in his chest.

His representatives, Craig Rothfeld and Juda Engelmayer , told ABC News in a statement on Monday, "Mr. Weinstein was rushed to Bellevue Hospital last night due to several medical conditions. We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today however cannot comment any further than that."

"As we have extensively stated before, Mr. Weinstein suffers a plethora of significant health issues that need ongoing treatment," the statement continued. "We are grateful to the executive team at the New York City Department of Correction and Rikers Island for acting swiftly in taking him to Bellevue Hospital."

It's unclear if Weinstein will still appear in court this week as expected. He was scheduled to make an appearance and possibly testify about an alleged sexual assault from late 2005 to the middle of 2006 that could result in new charges, ABC New s reported.

Two other alleged assaults from 2016 and another time period could be brought to court in the future, prosecutors noted.

In 2020, Weinstein was convicted of felony sex crimes and sentenced to 23 years in prison. In 2022, an appeals court upheld the conviction, before it was overturned in early 2024 by a higher court, and a retrial was ordered.

Weinstein also faced charges in California and in late 2022, he was convicted of multiple crimes and later sentenced to 16 years in prison to be served after his New York sentence.

Throughout 2024, Weinstein has been in and out of Bellevue Hospital as he dealt with a "myriad of health problems," his representative stated in July.
