Diana Taurasi, a six-time Olympic gold medalist, announced last summer that she has finished playing for USA basketball.

This, of course, led to speculation about the end of her WNBA career as well.

At 42, Taurasi continues to make a significant impact in her 20th year in the league. Since the Paris Olympics, she is averaging 13.2 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game.

As the WNBA's all-time leading scorer and one of the most outstanding women's basketball players, her retirement will mark the rise of new stars in the league.

Her career's longevity and record-breaking achievements in the WNBA are unmatched. However, a recent social media post by the Mercury hints that Taurasi may retire sooner than expected.

The Mercury's social medial team, promoting the last two regular-season home games in Phoenix, shared a retrospective video of Taurasi with the caption "If this is it."

Fans quickly made assumptions regarding the post on Instagram. Here are some of their reactions:

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN IF THIS IS IT I WILL CRY IF I DONT GET TO SEE D IN PERSON NEXT YEAR WHEN THE BAY HAS A TEAM," one fan said.

"Wait what does this mean? We've already had so many retirement announcements in women's sports," another said.

"Nah you can't just say IF THIS IS IT. Tell us, is it it or not? We need to know," one fan stated.

"She and WE NEED A RETIREMENT YEAR SEND OFF SEASON. IM NOT READY," one remarked.

"This better be a ticket sales gimmick, I'd be ok with that but if she's actually retiring. Please give fans time to make accommodations!" a fan said.

Taurasi, chosen first in the 2004 WNBA Draft by the Mercury, made history as the first player to reach 10,000 career points in August 2023.

If this season is indeed her last, the three-time WNBA champion aims to finish strong with the playoff-bound Mercury.
