Michigan State's offensive line faces a significant setback with the long-term injury of Kristian Phillips.

The Spartans head coach, Jonathan Smith, has indicated that Phillips is likely out for the remainder of the season, which poses a challenge for the Spartans as they look to maintain their momentum.

“You probably won’t see him again this year,” Smith added . “So, it’s next man up. I think we did rotate again o-line wise at tackle and at guard with those guys. That’s where I’m back to. We can keep on jelling. We’ve got to keep on working on that group.”

Phillips, who has been a key player, suffered a lower body injury that will keep him off the field for an extended period. This loss comes at a crucial time as the Spartans aim to solidify their offensive strategy.

The coaching staff will need to quickly identify a suitable replacement to fill the gap left by Phillips.

So far this season, Michigan State has shown promise, averaging 154.5 rushing yards per game, ranking 72nd nationally.

They have also allowed 1.5 sacks per game, placing them 59th in that category. With a 2-0 record, including a recent win against Maryland, the Spartans are looking to build on their success.

Phillips joined Michigan State as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022, where he was ranked as the 82nd interior offensive lineman. In his redshirt freshman year, he participated in 11 games, contributing valuable experience to the team.

Next week, the Spartans will host Prairie View A&M, and the focus will be on how they adapt to Phillips' absence. The team will need to rally and continue to develop their offensive line to keep their winning streak alive.
