A 2-year-old was fatally struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon in Monsey, according to police. Ramapo police responded to the incident on Calvert Drive after a report of a child struck, just after 3 p.m. The 2-year-old was transported to Nyack Hospital, and later succumbed to her injuries. Police say the 21-year-old driver of the Honda Odyssey was not injured and remained on the scene. They say the driver, who is from Monsey, is cooperating with the investigation. "

I just think the whole region (both on the NY and NJ sides) needs more sidewalks, traffic lights, street lights, street signs, etc for everyone's safety. This isn't to excuse anyone from driving in an irresponsible manner (Please remember this tragedy is, at the time I'm writing this, still under investigation). However - face it - this whole area is densely populated as well as twisty and hilly. So I guess I wouldn't mind higher property taxes if it can prevent another death, especially that of a child.
