Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers kicked off the 2024 season with a solid win over the Las Vegas Raiders, starting the year with a 1-0 record.

Although the game began with some early struggles, the Chargers demonstrated a new resilience that sets them apart from previous seasons.

In the second half, the Chargers scored on three of their last five drives, showcasing a more disciplined and effective team. This shift is largely attributed to their new head coach, Jim Harbaugh, whose influence is already evident.

After the game, Herbert expressed pride in his team's ability to perform under pressure, highlighting a significant change from past seasons where they often faltered in similar situations.

"The past couple years, maybe we'd go three-and-out and punt the ball and things go a different way," Herbert said . "To be able to drive the ball down like that and put it in the end zone, and then have the defense come up with a big stop, it was awesome to see."

Herbert also added that they really turned it up a notch in the second half.

“It definitely didn't go our way in the first half but to go out in the second half to put together a couple drives and the defense get some turnovers, great team ball,” Herbert said .

The Chargers managed to drive the ball downfield and secure a touchdown, followed by a crucial defensive stop.

The defense played a key role, allowing only 296 yards and forcing three turnovers, a performance that impressed Harbaugh.

He noted the importance of early defensive stops, which helped the team regain momentum despite some offensive setbacks.

“It was a great performance. To have the early stops (on defense) were huge,” Harbaugh said. “We had a lot of three-and-outs on offense, but we were at our best when our best was needed the most.”

Herbert's performance was steady, completing 17 of 26 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown while only being sacked once.

As the Chargers prepare for their next game against the Panthers, they aim to build on this momentum and continue their positive trajectory for the season.
