WWE RAW Goes Back to 2 Hours for Final Quarter of 2024

WWE RAW has been three hours for more than a decade and that has been one of the biggest complaints on a weekly basis. However, things are going to change as it was announced on tonight's WWE RAW that the show will revert back to the two-hour program beginning on Oct. 7 when the show returns to USA Network until joining Netflix on Jan. 6, 2025. Let's dive into the historic announcement and what this means going forward.

Why did WWE make this decision?

WWE is in a position where they have a short-term deal with the USA Network for Monday Night RAW right now before transitioning to Netflix at the beginning of 2025. This gives them the opportunity to play around with the format and with WWE and NBC Universal being together for a long time, it makes sense to lessen the show. Sometimes less is more and that is what this appears to be. This will help ratings as the WWE RAW ratings typically dip in the third hour and provide less filler on a weekly basis for the company.

When did WWE RAW go to three hours?

WWE RAW used to be two hours and would be three hours on special occasions. However, it would transition to three hours on a permanent basis from the 1,000th episode of WWE RAW on July 23, 2012. That is also the show where CM Punk was able to retain the WWE Championship against John Cena's cash-in attempt of Money in the Bank. Since then, the weekly episodic show has been on from 8 pm ET through 11 pm ET. The reason is simple: money. The company would receive more money to produce an additional hour of television and they have not reverted back until this change.

Under this new deal with USA Network hosting WWE RAW for three months, this allowed a change that the WWE Universe has been clamoring for. It appears that this will also be happening on Netflix, so this is certainly going to be a positive going forward.
