Wheel of Fortune fans slammed the new "terrible set design" as they complained that the new bright look "hurts their eyes" and made it impossible for them to focus on the puzzle.

During the highly anticipated season 42 premiere viewers were thrilled the long-time gameshow was back, but many were left distracted as all they could focus on was the new blinding new set. During the show many dozens off viewers called for set designers to be fired as they felt overwhelmed and distracted by the amount of color and lines featured in the background.

As the new contestants worked to lock the hidden phrase viewers took to X, formerly Twitter , brutally slamming the gameshow's new background and begging the show to fix it for future episodes. Monday evening, one user fumed: "Whoever designed the new #WheelOfFortune set should be fired. Is there something like trypophobia for lines? Because WHY ARE THERE SO MANY LINES? I already know I'm watching Wheel of Fortune. I don't need fifty wheels in various shapes, sizes and forms."

And another critic added: "Not to be negative but I absolutely hate what they’ve done to the #wheeloffortune set. It feels like one of those weird international versions of the show. Very distracting." And another agreed: "The background is so distracting that it's hard for me to focus on the puzzle."

While another viewer joked: "Why does the new set of #WheelOfFortune with #RyanSeacrest look like some old fashioned clock factory with animated mice crawling around." And someone else simply complained: "The new set hurts my eyes."

And while many praised Ryan Seacrest's first apperance on the gameshow bringing new life to the show, many rallied for some sense of familiarity. One user wrote: "Ok love Ryan Seacrest …HATE the new set. @WheelofFortune bring back the old set bc this ain’t it." And another added: "Okay, I'm happy with Ryan Seacrest being the #WheelOfFortune host, he did a good job. I do NOT like that the set is all modernized but I appreciate him."

And someone else echoed in agreement: "The new set is terrible. Looks like something out of a horrible nightmare I had. Bring back the old set with small new changes. Can barely watch Wheel of Fortune anymore as the new set is hideous, terrible and awful."

September 9 kicked off the start of season 42 of the long-time gameshow during which contestants compete to guess hidden phrases by guessing each letter one by one. Throughout the show, players win money or prizes determined by the spin of the wheel and each answer they correctly guess. And during this episode, in addition to other grand prizes the show gave an exciting surprise as the winner was offered free NFL tickets to the game of their choosing this upcoming football season.
