Simple theme for our RAW results for September 9th, 2024-it’s season premiere time-and also, WWE Week on the USA Network.

    Quick Results:

    • The Wyatt Sick6 defeat American Made in an 8 person street fight. As expected, the brawl was all around the ring, plenty of satisfying carnage, and a big win for the good guys.
    • Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill defeat Unholy Union to retain their Women’s World Championships.
    • Dom Mysterio defeats Dragon Lee. Big assist from Liv Morgan in this one.
    • Lyra Valkyria, Zelina Vega and Natalya defeated Pure Fusion Collective. Nice way to bring Nattie back on WWE television.
    • Finn Balor versus Rey Mysterio ended with Balor getting himself disqualified.
    • Jey Uso outlasts Ilya Dragunov, Pete Dunne and Braun Strowman to become #1 contender to Bron Breakker’s title. Could this finally be the time?

    Best Match:

It’s a wrestling sandwich. That is, it’s half to the opening match and half to our main event. That 8 person street fight to open was fire, and the main event did everything it had to in order to match it. Crowd was hot for both, and you love to see it.

    Worst Match:

Tough one here, but for a title match, the women’s tag match got lost in the shuffle of it all.

    Noteworthy Moments:

For one thing, Gunther called Wade Barrett by his real name-Stu. And he followed that by telling Bret Hart that he was his second all time favorite, behind Bill Goldberg . Epic trolling by Gunther with that one line. And, as we reported a while ago, Gunther has a beef with Hart , apparently.

Week two with Joe Tessitore, and I have realized the vision-I think. Still getting used to him, but he brings an air of credibility and realism to the broadcast. And with the parent company owning UFC and perhaps wanting to make things a bit more real, it all makes sense.

Rhea and Priest got significantly beaten down. The pair needs backup, more than Jey Uso. Will they get it? And if they do, who?

Kofi and Xavier have a tag title shot next week, but the tension still exists. Woods was like, wait, we said singles titles. He also mentioned a New Day tenth anniversary, so why do I think THAT will be when we finally see the group end?

    Holy S@#$ Moments:

Bad camera work. As Tessitore cut to the segment honoring the late Johnny Gaudreau, killed by a drunk driver , we got a Calgary fan, in Gaudreau jersey, taking a big swig of his beer. Legal, sure. Just thought the timing was terrible.

To the shock of no one, Natalya was the mystery partner for Zelina Vega and Lyra Valkyria. The trio finished the heels off with stereo submission moves, though just one was a Sharpshooter.

October, at Bad Blood, Drew McIntyre and CM Punk will do battle inside Hell In A Cell. That should be a really good main event-but will it be the only cell match that evening?

I guess I got a worse bout of COVID than Bronson Reed. Missed a single show, and back tonight to deliver a Tsunami out of nowhere to Braun Strowman.

Bron Breakker and Jey Uso, for the IC Title? Yeet.

    Lowlights:

I was a bit sad that, when it was all said and done, the tag title match was forgettable.

    Highlights:

The opening street fight was satisfying. The only drawback to that program was Wyatt Sick6 having to take out brand-new American Made, a heel team that should get over too.

On a day where he and his brother were laid to rest, Sami Zayn came to the ring in Calgary wearing a Johnny Gaudreau jersey. Johnny Hockey spent the first chunk of his career as a mainstay in Calgary.

Happy to see Bret Hart back on RAW , a show he helped get to where it is. But you can see how time has treated him. Still glad to see him.

    After The Final Bell:

It was a nice season premiere for RAW. It would have been nicer with some other surprises thrown in, since really there weren’t any major ones. Bret Hart was announced beforehand, and Nattie returning in Calgary was about as telegraphed as it comes. But still, I enjoyed the show. That hot Canadian crowd made this RAW that much better too.
