SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey State Troopers are on the lookout for a vehicle after they say it hit and killed a man on a motorcycle as he lost control of his bike and went into the southbound lane of Route 55 on Sunday.

Officials are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run.

They say it happened around 4 p.m. as 62-year-old William Baldwin of Newfield, Gloucester County, took the on-ramp from Route 40 onto Route 55 on his motorcycle. According to police, he lost directional control, hit a curb to his left and went into the southbound lane of Route 55.

Then, authorities say he was struck head on by the unknown vehicle, knocking him off his motorcycle. He later died from his injuries.

Police say the unknown vehicle also left the scene before they could arrive and they’re asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call state police.

On Thursday, investigators said a separate accident killed two people on Route 55 between exits 50 and 53.

According to state police, 62-year-old Stanley Kahana was headed southbound when he crossed a grassy median strip, then he traveled the wrong way down one of the northbound lanes.

Investigators said his SUV collided head-on with a car driven by 53-year-old Jennifer Hufnell, and they both died.
