After Sunday’s incident involving their wide receiver; the Miami Dolphins release an official statement on the Tyreek Hill detainment. Within their strongly worded, three paragraph declaration; the NFL franchise asks for “swift and strong action” to be taken against the police officers involved in the ordeal.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the release of Miami’s expressions, as well as the release of footage of Hill’s detainment over the weekend. Schefter mentions,

“More about newly released body camera footage of the detainment of Tyreek Hill … showing that the Miami Dade police officers pulled the star player out of his car and forced him to the pavement before placing him in handcuffs.

Dolphins released a statement saying that they hope the Miami Dade Police Department takes “swift and strong action against the officers who engaged in such despicable behavior.”

Hill maintains that he compiled with all the officers. After Sunday’s game, Tyreek told the press, “I wasn’t disrespectful because my mom didn’t raise me that way, didn’t cuss, didn’t do none of that. Like I said, I’m still trying to figure it out.”

Nevertheless, the Dolphins want the Miami Dade Police Department to figure things out. They are not happy with how their player was treated. The Dolphins statement:

“We are saddened by the overly aggressive and violent conduct directed towards Tyreek Hill, Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith by police officers before yesterday’s game. It is both maddening and heartbreaking to watch the very people we trust to protect our community use such unnecessary force and hostility towards these players, yet it is also a reminder that not every situation like this ends in peace, as we are grateful this one did. ‘What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill?’ is a question that will carry with resounding impact.

We are proud to have a strong and positive relationship with the Miami-Dade Police Department and other law enforcement agencies and recognize that the vast majority of officers do serve the community with the utmost character and desire to protect all citizens. However, as is on full display in the videos released tonight, there are some officers who mistake their responsibility and commitment to serve with misguided power. While we commend MDPD for taking the right and necessary action to quickly release this footage, we also urge them to take equally swift and strong action against the officers who engaged in such despicable behavior.

We will stand beside Tyreek and our players as they work to use their platform and this situation to make a positive impact in our community. We have always believed that the game of football holds a unique power to bring people together, and we remain hopeful that through the collective work of the players, organization and our community partners, we can create lasting change.”

This incident involving Hill took place a few hours before Sunday’s kickoff. Featuring a game between the Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Things took a serious turn and escalated as officers forcibly removed Hill from his car; less than a minute after pulling him over. And then detained him in handcuffs for nearly 20 minutes. As of Monday evening, the Miami-Dade police department has now released more than 105 minutes of footage from officer-worn cameras.

Furthermore, according to NPR, “One officer, whose name has not been released by police officials, has already been placed on administrative duty. The incident is under investigation, the department said.”
