The New York Jets dropped a highly anticipated Week 1 opener to the San Francisco 49ers, 32-19. The reigning NFC champions dominated time of possession, 38:40 to 21:20, keeping Aaron Rodgers and company from ever getting in a groove.

The 40-year-old Jets quarterback finished the night completing 13-of-21 passes for 167 yards, one touchdown and one interception on a tipped pass.

After the game Rodgers spoke candidly to reporters at the podium. The final question posed to him was regarding whether he agreed with head coach Robert Saleh's previous comment about the 49ers being a "championship-level group."

"I would, yup," Rodgers said. "They are a championship-level group. I hope we see them there."

Some Jets fans, who have suffered through eight consecutive losing seasons dating back to 2016, weren't having it with Rodgers' optimism.

"We won't," one Jets fan bluntly stated .

"He's clearly new here," another fan chimed in .

Rodgers has a tough task ahead to make good on his comments.

The Jets last played in the postseason during the 2010-11 season, reaching the AFC Conference Championship with Mark Sanchez before falling 24-19 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

New York will try to get in the win column in Week 2 when they visit the Tennessee Titans, who dropped their Week 1 opener to the Chicago Bears despite not allowing an offensive touchdown.
