Mom shot in face, killed in front of son trying to defend husband from robbers in NYC condo building

A 57-year-old woman was fatally shot in the face in front of her son while trying to defend her husband from a pair of robbers who followed him into their lower Manhattan condo building Monday night.

Ying Zhu Liu was found dead inside the eighth-floor hallway of the Two Bridges building located at 44 Market St. just after 11 p.m., police said.

Two suspects in black ski masks allegedly followed the victim’s husband into the building and into the elevator, where they attempted to rob him.

Liu had buzzed her husband into the building and was waiting in the eighth-floor hallway with the couple’s son, 32, when the elevator opened on the struggle, sources told The Post.

She tried to intervene when one of the suspects drew a weapon and shot her in the face in front of both her husband and son.

The husband and son were both unharmed.

The robbers managed to grab Liu’s husband’s cell phone before they fled in an unknown direction.

The pair were still at large as of early Tuesday.

The gunman was described as wearing a half red, half black hooded jacket, black pants with a white stripe down the leg, and white sneakers, police said.

The second suspect was wearing a black hooded coat, black pants, and black and white sneakers.

The 12-story building where Liu was killed has 16 condo units featuring balconies and views of the Manhattan Bridge.

The building also houses a preschool and commercial space on the ground level.

A two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit with three balconies currently for sale is asking for $1.38 million, according to online listings.

The investigation is ongoing.
