Deschamps and Rangnick under pressure after Nations League showings

France coach Didier Deschamps said he did not hear the whistles and boos directed towards him from fans in Lyon amid the 2-0 Nations League win over Belgium.

The 2018 World Cup winner initially rested superstar Kylin Mbappe after a 3-1 loss to Italy on Friday.

The tactic worked in Monday's win over Belgium but that did not spare Deschamps, whose shot-shy side limped out of Euro 2024.

"I was in the dressing room," Deschamps told reporters, explaining why he had not heard the whistles.

"I'm not going to point the finger at a club or others, but it's obviously unfortunate when you play in a region and there are reactions like that. But as far as I'm concerned, I'm not worried, even though I know that the Lyon fans aren't fully behind me."

Deschamps is a former player and coach for Lyon's rivals Marseille.

For Austria coach Ralf Rangnick, the euphoria following a strong showing at the Euros has quickly evaporated after a 1-1 Nations League draw with Slovenia and Monday's 2-1 loss to Norway in Oslo.

"At the Euros, we had the bravery of underdogs," Rangnick said.

"Nobody wanted to play against us. That wasn't the case in these two games."
