The holidays can be full of joy, but they’re also an expensive time of year for many. According to the National Retail Federation , holiday sales grew by 3.8% last year to $964.4 billion.
One of the biggest areas where people spend the most around the holidays is tech — that is, electronics and appliances. Sales for these areas went up by 9.3% last year.
With all things considered, it’s easy to step outside your budget and spend hundreds of dollars or more on holiday items, including gifts. If you want to cut down on how much you shell out this November and December, now’s a good time to start your holiday shopping. Some brands, like Apple, often go up for the holidays.
While there are newer versions of the iPhone, like the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone 13 is more affordable and still a solid phone.
Both the iPhone 13 Pro and the base option are highly reviewed online with 4.1 stars and 4.4 stars, respectively. The base model comes in six different colors, including blue and pink. It also comes with 128 gigabytes (GB) storage, though you can upgrade to either 256GB or 512GB.
The iPhone 13 also has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display and an A15 Bionic Chip. It has a 6-core central processing unit (CPU) and a 4-core graphics processing unit (GPU) with a dual-camera system.
The AirPods Pro (2nd generation) feature adaptive audio, active noise cancellation and conversation awareness. The pods and the charging case they come in are both sweat and water-resistant, making them ideal for working out. They have 4.7 stars on Amazon with over 625,000 reviews.
This Apple product has seen some notable price fluctuations over time. According to Camelcamelcamel, which shows how prices have changed over time, they cost about $119 last year. The price dipped after the holidays, but could rise again.
10.9-Inch Apple iPad (10th generation)
Price: $349 (base price)
This 10th generation iPad comes in four colors: blue, silver, yellow and pink. Its base option has 64GB of storage, but you can upgrade for an additional cost. It also boasts a 12 megapixels (MP) wide camera and landscape 12MP ultrawide front camera. If you’re willing to pay a little more, you can upgrade the device to include an Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard, cellular and AppleCare+.
According to Camelcamelcamel, this iPad has gradually decreased in price over time. However, it also had a price hike around November and December of last year — up about $100 to $150. If you need a new iPad, buying one now could save you quite a bit.
Apple Watch SE
Price: $249 (base price)
One of the more affordable options Apple sells, this SE smartwatch comes with quite a few features. With it, you can track your heart rate, get alerts for any irregular rhythms, sense your temperature and more. It’s also water-resistant, making it great for high-intensity workouts or swimming.
The watch comes in three color finish options: midnight black, starlight and silver. You can choose between either 40 mm or 44 mm as best fits your wrist. And you can choose between a stainless steel, textile and rubber band based on what you need.
Last year, the Apple Watch SE dipped just before the winter holidays before rising in December.
13-Inch MacBook Air
Price: $899 (base price)
Like many other Apple products, laptops tend to become more expensive around the holidays. So, if you’re looking for a new MacBook, now’s a good time to get one.
The MacBook Air comes with 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 8GB unified memory and 512GB solid state drive (SSD) storage.
