With the 2024-25 NBA season approaching, Parish Sharkey of Beale Street Bears highlighted three key players essential to the Memphis Grizzlies' success. After an injury-riddled season, the Grizzlies are looking to return to their winning ways, and according to Sharkey, the impact of these players could be the key to contending in the Western Conference once again.

Zach Edey: The Grizzlies' next dominant center

At number three, Sharkey identifies rookie Zach Edey as crucial to Memphis' future. At 7'4" and selected ninth overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, Edey is expected to step in as the starting center for the Grizzlies, a position that has been a weakness since the departure of Steven Adams.

Edey is expected to fill a significant void with his strong rebounding and defensive abilities. Sharkey writes that his "impact will determine a lot for this team, " especially since Edey is the only true center currently on the roster. His performance will be vital to restoring the Grizzlies' dominance on the boards, where they once excelled. With multiple sportsbooks and league executives already favoring him for Rookie of the Year, Edey's potential is undeniable.

GG Jackson: A high-ceiling wing player

Even though GG Jackson has been sidelined by injury, they still rank second on Sharkey's list. Despite being just 19 years old and facing the beginning of the season without foot surgery, Jackson is still seen as a crucial part of the Grizzlies' future success. Sharkey notes Jackson's ability to score from all three levels, something Memphis hasn't had on the wing since Rudy Gay.

Sharkey believes Jackson's development could be "the difference between the Grizzlies being a play-in or first/second round exit and a legit Western Conference finalist." Memphis aims to be a serious contender, so his return and growth throughout the season will be closely monitored.

Ja Morant: The Grizzlies' unquestioned leader

Unsurprisingly, Ja Morant tops the list as the most crucial player for the Grizzlies. Sharkey emphasizes that Morant is the team's best player and one of the league's most dynamic stars. After serving a 25-game suspension and dealing with a season-ending injury last year, Morant has much to prove.

Sharkey points out the stark difference in the Grizzlies' performance with and without Morant: "Their record is 32-62 without him the past two seasons, " emphasizing his importance to their success. If Morant remains healthy, the Grizzlies are expected to vie for a top spot in the Western Conference.

Sharkey's analysis highlights that while Ja Morant is the clear leader, the development and contributions from young talents like Zach Edey and GG Jackson will be crucial in determining how far Memphis can go this season.
