Chet Holmgren impresses NBA players in latest open run

The 2024-25 NBA season tips off in roughly six weeks, and the most excited for a new year could be Chet Holmgren, who is entering his second season. The star big man has had a busy summer.

From hosting a youth basketball camp, making a guest appearance on a podcast, and having an impressive number of training videos hit the internet, Holmgren’s preparation for Year 2 has been well pronounced.

Hitting the open run

Coming soon to a gym near you is a wirey seven-footer with “unicorn” abilities. Despite a flattering rookie season, in which he produced 16.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks on 53.0% shooting, Chet understands that showing growth after a star-caliber season is often more trying than flashing stardom to begin with.

With that in mind, the 22-year-old recently participated in an open run with NBA stars like Trae Young and DeMar DeRozan, showcasing his wowing offensive and defensive chops.

What immediately stands out is Holmgren’s fervent activity on both sides of the ball. The video shows clips of the big man getting after it, bringing the ball from one end of the court to the other before converting at the rim. The form on his 3-point shot, which he demonstrated as a rookie, looks as sound as ever. And he even threw a dart behind his back, showing that he has that in his bag, too.

With time and consistent development, Holmgren can steadily evolve into one of the most gifted players in the game. His size, fine shooting, and ball-handling ability could place him among a very short list of players with such a skill set that he is over seven feet tall.

The expectations for Chet next season are numerous. But with the time he’s dedicated to his craft this summer, virtually nothing is unattainable for the rapidly ascending star.
