    Klubnik had Fun in Rout of App State

    CLEMSON — The 25 th -ranked Clemson Tigers toppled the App State Mountaineers in their home opener in a 66-20 victory Saturday at Memorial Stadium. After the game, quarterback Cade Klubnik spoke to the meeting following his stellar performance in the Tigers’ victory.

    Klubnik completed 24 of 26 passes for 378 yards, while accounting for seven touchdowns (5 passing, 2 rushing).

    –“It’s fun to win” were quarterback Cade Klubnik’s first words after his best collegiate performance to date. Klubnik’s accuracy was spot on. Additionally, he found the end zone by himself twice on two separate rushing touchdowns.

    –Klubnik credited his coaches for being able to rapidly analyze App State’s defensive formations. On the first touchdown of the game, Klubnik explained that the Mountaineers came out in a coverage he hadn’t seen during the week. He explained, “Our coaches and defense do a great job of preparing us all week.”

    –Multiple moving parts simultaneously contributed to the Tigers’ success on the field. Klubnik explained, “I thought the best part of tonight was how we got to spread the ball around.” The Clemson quarterback found seven different receivers for touchdowns throughout the game. Additionally, they scored 56 points in the first two quarters making it the most points for the Tigers scored in a single half in the modern era. Klubnik said the benefits of spreading the ball was the fact the, “defense can’t just double team” anyone in particular.

    The Tigers are off this week and then will return to Death Valley on Sept. 21 to host ACC-rival NC State.
