Mayor Adams Tests Positive for Covid for the Second Time

On Monday, New York Mayor Eric Adams tested positive for COVID-19. As a result,  he canceled two planned engagements and withdrew from public engagement while federal inquiries continue to swirl around him and his inner circle.

Fabien Levy, the deputy mayor for communications, verified the positive test result and stated the mayor's symptoms were not severe.

Since taking office, Mr. Adams had tested positive for the virus twice. The mayor previously came down with COVID-19 on his 100th day in office.

The public was informed of Mr. Adams' illness the day after he visited two Brooklyn churches. While there, he drew parallels between himself and the biblical figure Job in an attempt to find supporters in the midst of federal probes that he says are interfering with his attempts to run the city.

Tuesday was scheduled to be the mayor's usual weekly news briefing, though it is uncertain if he will conduct it virtually.

If Mayor Adams goes through with the briefing, it will be his first since federal investigations into several of his top aides came to light last week when detectives took the first deputy mayor's, the chancellor of schools, Edward A. Caban, the commissioner of police, and other officials' phones. Additionally, agents searched the residence of a consultant whose brothers, Philip Banks III and David C. Banks, are the deputy mayor for public safety and chancellor of the schools, respectively.

The federal inquiries are being conducted, but the mayor and his assistants are not under any criminal accusations at this time.
