ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A top St. Louis Cardinals prospect will finally get his chance to make an impression in the big leagues.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals announced they will call up prospect Thomas Saggese ahead of their series against the Cincinnati Reds.

To make room for Saggese on the 28-man roster, the Cardinals optioned down centerfielder Victor Scott II to Memphis Redbirds in Triple-A.

MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided was first to report the news of Saggese's call up Tuesday.

Saggese was one of three players acquired at the 2023 Trade Deadline by the Cardinals in a deal that saw them send starter Jordan Montgomery and reliever Chris Stratton to the Texas Rangers. In exchange, the Cardinals acquired Saggese, reliever John King and starting pitching prospect Tekoah Roby.

Saggese started off his tenure with the Cardinals with a bang, amassing a slash line of .331/.403/.662 in his first 33 games in the organization, smashing 10 home runs and posting an OPS of 1.064 while playing for the Springfield Cardinals.

Sagesse, who was named a preseason top 100 prospect according to Baseball America ahead of the 2024 season, would start the season in Triple-A with the Memphis Redbirds and he would start slow, posting a slash line of .223/.284/.372, posting an OPS of .656, a weighted runs created plus (wRC+) of 65 and only smashing eight home runs through the first three months of the season.

However, since July, Saggese has been on a tear. Since July 1, Saggese's slash line has been .290/.351/.524, posting an OPS of .874, a wRC+ of 123 and smashing 12 home runs in 55 games.

Saggese will make his Cardinals debut Tuesday evening at Busch Stadium, starting at shortstop and batting seventh in the lineup.
