The Jets were overmatched against the 49ers in Monday’s season opener, but in the eyes of Boomer, a major silver lining was the way Aaron Rodgers looked in what was his first full game in nearly two years.

“I thought he played well,” Boomer said. “I thought the offensive line in the first half did a good job of pass protection.

“You saw what Aaron Rodgers could really be and what I think he’s going to be this season.”

Rodgers threw for just 167 yards and one touchdown, and had a pass in tight coverage deflected for a costly interception. But he also flashed signs of MVP Rodgers, and as the season moves along, Boomer expects that to become more and more common.

“That’s the positive sign of it. The back shoulder throw to Garrett Wilson, the touchdown pass to Allen Lazard, these are all the things Aaron Rodgers brings to your team,” Boomer said.

“A lot of good things that Aaron did last night. A lot of accurate throws, the ball came out quickly, staying the pocket and not moving around too much. That’s the way he has to play, and that’s the way he should play. You could see it’s gonna get better and better.”
