Virginia SSI Recipients to Receive January 2025 Payments in December

WINCHESTER, VA - In December 2024, Virginia Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive their January 2025 payment a few days early.

According to the Social Security Administration, this adjustment is due to the typical SSI payment schedule, which generally issues payments on the first of each month.

However, if the first day of the month falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the payment is made on the last business day of the previous month.

According to the Social Security Administration, for January 2025, the first falls on a Wednesday, but because New Year's Day is a federal holiday, SSI recipients will receive their payment on the preceding business day, which is Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

This early disbursement helps recipients avoid delays associated with holidays and ensures they have access to their funds promptly at the start of the new month.

This scheduling quirk happens occasionally and is planned by the Social Security Administration to ensure uninterrupted benefit access for millions of Americans who rely on these payments, including those in Virginia, according to the Social Security Administration.
