Parkville Middle School paraeducator named Maryland Education Support Professional of the Year

PARKVILLE, MD—The Maryland State Education Association has named Meghan Anderson of Parkville Middle School as its Education Support Professional of the Year. The honor was presented to Anderson on Friday, September 6th.

Anderson was considered for the statewide honor after being named Paraeducator of the Year in May by Education Support Professionals of Baltimore County (ESPBC).

“I am deeply honored to be named MSEA’s Education Support Professional of the Year,” said Anderson. “This recognition not only graciously reflects my drive and dedication to our amazing students, it is also a testament to the hard work and collaborative effort of my incredible fellow educators – without whom this award would not be possible.”

Anderson has served as a paraeducator in the Regional Social-Emotional Learning Program at Parkville Middle School since 2019, where she also co-sponsors the S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) club and coaches badminton and tennis. Before her current role, Anderson worked at the school as an additional assistant.

The paraeducator has been praised for her rapport with students and ability to help them avoid crises, her collaboration with teachers, and her involvement in schoolwide activities. Anderson is working toward a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and special education at Bowie State University, as a member of BCPS’s Grow Our Own cohort. She maintains a 4.0 grade point average, and, this school year, she began interning (student-teaching) at Carney Elementary School.

Anderson served as a member of the BCPS Safe and Supportive Environments Advisory Group. She is a member of ESPBC’s Communications and Professional Development committees and is the ESPBC building representative at Parkville Middle.
