The Jets were blown out by the 49ers to start their most hyped season in recent memory, and Sal Licata can’t believe the negative response from some of the fans after one defeat.

Sure, the defense didn’t look up to par and the game was mainly non competitive, but Sal doesn’t understand how Jets fans aren’t celebrating the fact that they finally seem to have a real quarterback under center in Aaron Rodgers.

“My God, how many games or how many years did we have to watch this team with the embarrassing quarterback play? Like, historically bad quarterback play for years,” Sal said. “They have a quarterback. End of story. And with a quarterback, they are going to be a team that is able to compete.”

Sal believes the defense will improve and get back to the level it was last season, but the big question for 2024 was how Rodgers would look at 40 years old and coming off of major surgery. The sample size was small due to the Niners dominating possession, but Sal saw all he needed to see to believe that Rodgers is going to be a major factor for the Jets offense, which they haven’t had at the quarterback position in seemingly decades.

“I don’t know how you cannot be beyond excited,” Sal said. “I know the result was not what you want and the defense got ran over…but it’s not the same old Jets. I don’t know how you cannot be beyond excited watching Aaron Rodgers play quarterback for your team.

“Assuming he stays healthy, it’s going to be a fun season for the Jets, because they have, finally, a real quarterback.”
