A Bengal tiger named Tony, which escaped from the Quinta La Fauna Zoo in Reynosa, Mexico, on September 3, has been captured in the rural community of Los Longoria , south of the border town of Reynosa, Texas. The tiger was on the loose for nearly a week, causing concern among local residents and officials.

The tiger's escape was first noticed when zoo staff found the mesh of its enclosure destroyed on the morning of September 4. The area where the tiger disappeared has heavy vegetation, making the search more difficult. The tiger was reportedly seen near the Rio Grande, which is less than 50 yards across from Reynosa to Hidalgo, Texas.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office warned residents to be vigilant, even though there was no evidence that the tiger had crossed into Texas.

"We currently have no information suggesting that the tiger has crossed the river into our county but it remains a possibility," said HCSO Lt. Enrique Longoria .

The tiger was finally captured on September 10 after officials placed three cages in the area with bait to lure the feline and catch it without causing harm. The tiger is reported to be in good health and is no longer a threat to nearby residents. Reynosa Mayor Carlos Peña Ortiz announced that the tiger will be taken to the Tamatán Zoo in Victoria.

While on the run, the tiger reportedly attacked some piglets and some hens . Despite the potential danger, no human injuries were reported during the tiger's time on the loose.

This is not the first time a tiger has escaped from a zoo in Mexico. However, it is the first time a tiger has been reported to have crossed the border into Texas.
